What A Night!

The rains held off and the temperatures stayed low for Olney’s 15 Annual National Night Out making the event one of the best in recent years. The good weather allowed thousands of area residents to come out for the evening and visit with local police and fire departments, enjoy good music and great food, play games, and see what local businesses have to offer.

During the evening the Park Police showed off their horses and did a special demonstration with their canine rescue team. The Montgomery County Police let children turn on their flashing lights and gave out safety information to families. The Sandy Spring Volunteer Fire Department did a stove demonstration and let everyone have a look at their new water rescue vehicle and several fire trucks. The event was a good opportunity for the community to put a friendly face on their local police and fire departments.

Visitors to the event enjoyed hamburgers, hotdogs, and fries donated by B.J. Pumpernickels and pizza donated by Mamma Lucia. Drinks were provided by the Pepsi-Cola Company. Great music was provided by Rocketeria’s own band, Down With the Man. During the evening local businesses displayed information about their business with a health and safety theme. The Olney Chamber of Commerce handed out their newly printed business directory and pedestrian safety information along with reflective zipper pulls for children. The OCC also oversaw the raffle held during the event. There were many popular items among the donated raffle items and many visitors stayed to see if they had won that special prize they had their eye on. Also during the event, children enjoyed games and crafts provided by the Longwood Community Center. Everyone went home with valuable information and satisfaction of having a great night outdoors for a good cause.

The Olney Chamber would like to thank the organizing committee of the Montgomery County Police, the MD-National Capital Park Police, the Sandy Spring Volunteer Fire Department, the Longwood Community Center, the Olney Lions, the Sandy Spring Lions, Our House, and Carl M. Freeman Companies. The Chamber would also like to thank all the volunteers, cash sponsors, tent sponsors, in kind sponsors, and raffle donors for making the event such a success. Without all of their support the event would not have been such a success.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Olney Police Satellite Station, the Sandy Spring Volunteer Fire Department, and the MD-National Capital Park Police.
